Brand New - The Quiet Things that no one Ever Knows

We saw the western coast
I saw the hospital
Nurse the shoreline like a wound
We paint a lover's tryst
We're neither clear nor descript
We kept it safe and slow
The quiet things that no one ever knows

So keep the blood in your head!
And keep your feet on the ground!
Today's the day it gets tired!
Today's the day we drop down!
Give up my body in bed!
All for an empty hotel!
Wasting words on lowercases and capitals!

So keep the blood in your head!
And keep your feet on the ground!
Today's the day it gets tired!
Today's the day we drop down!
Give up my body in bed!
All for an empty hotel!
Wasting words on lowercases and capitals!

I contemplate the day we wed
Your friends are boring me to death
Your veil is ruined in the rain
By then you like to do without
There's nothing new to talk about
And though our kids are blessed
the parents let them shoulder all the blame

So keep the blood in your head!
And keep your feet on the ground!
Today's the day it gets tired!
Today's the day we drop down!
Give up my body in bed!
All for an empty hotel!
Wasting words on lowercases and capitals!

So keep the blood in your head!
And keep your feet on the ground!
Today's the day it gets tired!
Today's the day we drop down!
Give up my body in bed!
All for an empty hotel!
Wasting words on lowercases and capitals!

I lie for only you
and I lie well
Halleluh

I lie for only you
and I lie well
Halleluh

(I lie for only you and I lie well, halleluh)
So keep the blood in your head!
And keep your feet on the ground!
Today's the day it gets tired!
Today's the day we drop down!
Give up my body in bed!
All for an empty hotel!
Wasting words on lowercases and capitals!

This was one of my favorite songs from Brand New for a while, but I never actually knew what it meant. The first stanza of the song tells me a couple things. First, they were on the western coast and by a hospital. And second, they have a secret they don't want to tell "The quiet things that no one ever knows". The next stanza is the chorus. This, too me, is about sex, but more importantly, loosing his/her/their virginity in a hotel room "Today's the day we drop down! / Give up my body in bed! / All for an empty hotel!  ".  In the next stanza he starts off by talking about them getting married "I contemplate the day we wed", but things seem to be going downhill. He doesn't like her friends. Her veil is ruined, possibly from her losing her virginity. It seems at this point they are growing apart "There's nothing new to talk about". And with the final two lines of the stanza "And though our kids are blessed / the parents let them shoulder all the blame " tells me that, even though their kids are blessed, he and his girlfriend / girl he got pregnant blame the kids that they are together. With the next part "I lie for only you / and I lie well / Halleluh" I think that he is talking about not getting married, possibly due to an abortion. He has to lie to his parents about the abortion and why they are not getting married anymore, which only him and her know about. We end with the chorus again, which bring us back to the beginning of the story, to remind us what not to do.
